Listen. I tried to name this design something else, but you know what? This is just fancy ravioli. There’s no two ways about it.

I love the idea of an open-sided pullover. It’s not quite a vest, not quite a tee. This piece is worked from shoulder down. Both front and back use same shaping. After the panels are completed, the shoulders are seamed. The edging is picked up around the tabbard and worked in ribbing. Short rows create the scallop edging. Finally, the neck collar is picked up around the opening and worked the same as the body edging, just on a smaller scale. Close the sides by either working ties to hold both pieces together or seaming. The work is finally blocked to open the lace and articulate the scallops and then you’re on your merry way! Layer under it for winter, keep it simple with a tank top beneath in the warmer weather!

Sizes: XXS (XS, S, M, L) (XL, 2X, 3X) (4X, 5X, 6X) for a finished bust circumference of 28” (32”, 36”, 40”, 44”) (48”, 52”, 56”) (60”, 64”, 68”)/71 (81.5, 92, 101.5, 112) (122, 132, 142) (152.5, 162.5, 172.5) cm for the seamed version.

There are three length options: cropped, mid, and tunic.

Sample in size S (tied version) on a model with 36”/91.5 cm bust.

Yarn: 600 (625, 675, 725, 800) (900, 1000, 1100) (1200, 1300, 1450) yards/550 (575, 625, 675, 750) (825, 925, 1000) (1100, 1200, 1325) meters of DK weight yarn, roughly 85% in main color (shown in teal) and 15% in the contrast color (shown in navy) for mid-length (shown).

Needles: Size US 7/4.5 mm circular needles with a long (40”/100 cm) cable and straight needles of the same size (optional), or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: One lace chart repeat, 16 stitches and 24 rows measures 3.25” x 3”/8.5 cm x 7.5 cm in lace motif.

Notions: 24 regular closed-ring stitch markers, 8 special closed-ring stitch markers (different color, or otherwise distinguishable from the regular stitch markers), blocking mat, blocking wires (optional), and T-pins.

Techniques: Lace stitches, chart reading, picking up stitches, knitting in the round, German short rows (can sub wrap and turn if preferred), stretchy bind off, blocking.
