Product Description
Pattern Notes: This design is something I’ve been dreaming of for years. I finally found the right combination of techniques to get the shawl to do what I wanted, and I couldn’t be happier with the end result! Worked from side to side, you will use a combination of cabling and Intarsia to mimic the wings of a luna moth. Once the body of the work is complete, applied i-cord is added to prevent the work from rolling.
Sizes: One size. Finished wingspan of 60” – 80”/152.5 – 203 cm; finished width 24.75”/63 cm.
Yarn: 900 yards/830 meters of heavy sport or DK weight yarn total:
750 yards/690 meters in main color (light green)
75 yards/70 meters in deep purple/gray
75 yards/70 meters in cream
Scrap amounts in light gray/tan and yellow
Sample shown in Rico Design Essentials Merino DK Superwash Extrafine.
Needles: Size US 5/3.75 mm circular needle with a short (14”/35 cm) cable and double-point needles of one size smaller, or size needed to obtain gauge and one size smaller.
Gauge: 16 – 18 stitches and 30 – 32 rows yields 4”/10 cm squared (blocked) in Stockinette stitch without cabling.
Techniques: Cabling, chart reading, Intarsia, basic increases and decreases, and applied i-cord.
Notions: 20 closed-ring stitch markers, 2 locking markers, cable needle (optional, if preferred for cabling), bobbins (optional, if preferred for Intarsia), blocking mat, blocking wires (optional), and t-pins.
